Aston Homes: Ten Steps Of Construction

Looking to improve your knowledge of the building process? Super! The Aston Homes team have plenty of expert insight and we’re ready to share it with you. Today, Aston Homes share with you the ten ‘milestone’ steps to constructing your new home once your building permit has been granted – as managed by your highly experienced and dedicated Aston Homes site supervisor!
Slab
This stage of construction is when the all-important foundation is poured. Here, your construction team will prepare the site based on the plans and lay all of the under slab plumbing before pouring the slab.
Frame
This next stage of structuring includes the building of the walls and roof frame. With the ‘skeleton’ of the house in place, you are now able to get a true feel for your new home in 3D!
Roof cover
Up next, tiles or metal roofing is added along with facia and gutters. Our electrical and plumbing trades can also begin running pipes and electrical wiring through the walls and roof cavity.
Bricks
Stage four is where your new-build’s facade really takes a big step forward. Aston Homes offer a number of pre-designed external colour schemes that are complimented by contemporary brick colours and styles. With around 8000 bricks used per home (dependent on floorplan), we call in our quality bricklayers to get busy.
Plaster
Next it’s time to switch the focus to the internals of the build. Here, insulation is added to the walls and roof cavity – ensuring your new-build has good thermal resistance – before the plaster is added. Its at this stage that it starts to look more like a home and less like a construction site.
Internal Fixing
Fixing stage is where cabinetry, doors, skirting boards, architraves and waterproofing for wet areas is complete. This is the point that the internal colours scheme you have selected really starts to come to life.
Painting and Tiling
As with all Aston Homes builds, 3 coats of paint are applied to the internal walls, your choice of floor coverings are laid and tiling completed in the wet areas.
Fit Off
The final stage of the construction is known as ‘fit off’ which is when our trusty trades (electricians, carpenters and plumbers) return to add the final touches to your home such as light fittings, taps, showers, door locks, and bathroom finishes such as towel rails and toilet roll holders.
Quality
To ensure every box is ticked, a number of checks and inspections are completed throughout the construction process to pick up any issues to be resolved before each next step is taken. Once construction is complete, your site supervisor goes over the entire building again with a fine-tooth comb and prepares a detailed report listing any items for to be addressed before. After this, Aston Homes takes it one step further by hiring an independent inspector to make sure nothing was missed prior to you taking your final walk through before hand-over.
Handover
The exciting day you have been looking forward to has arrived and it is time to get your keys. Your building supervisor will walk you through your new home, answering any final questions you have and the home is yours!
