Aston Homes’ Guide to Determining the Size of Your First House

There are many important factors to take into consideration when you are buying your first home – and one of the most important ones is space. In today’s blog, the Aston Homes team unpack some of the questions you should ask yourself when determining the size of your first home. Read on!
Starting a family?
If you’re set on expanding your family in the near future, it’s a good idea to plan ahead and map out exactly how many bedrooms you might need. Young kids can easily share a room, but if you’re planning on investing in a home to see you through the next couple of decades, it might be best to add additional bedrooms in case you need to separate those pesky teenagers! It’s also important to consider the size of your shared living area and number of bathrooms you’ll need – in addition to storage – so there’ll be enough space for you and your family to breathe.
Working from home?
An office space becomes more of a necessity than a luxury if you freelance or run your own business from home. Features to take into consideration when looking for a home office are suitable storage options, room size and even the amount of natural light the space will enjoy. Your comfort can directly affect your productivity, so make sure you choose a workspace that’s right for you.
Frequently hosting guests?
Having a spare room is essential if you’re a homeowner with frequent house guests or if you plan on leasing out a room to help subsidize your mortgage. If it’s the latter, it could also be a good idea to look at the overall size of the house and shared areas to ensure you have enough space to happily cohabit with your boarder.
Need a backyard for happy kids and pets?
A landscaped, versatile space to enjoy the great outdoors is worthy of consideration if you have children or pets. Be sure to throw this consideration in the mix when you’re considering the size of your land, especially if you plan on adding new members to the family!
